I find most older surf to be kinda boring compared to MoAM, except for
Dick Dale, he really rocks.

Just this weekend I was on a quest similar to your own, and bought the
following:

1) Galaxy Trio - Cocktails with Gravity Girl 7"
This was not bad at all, pretty good in fact, I will buy more.

2) The Astronauts - War of the Satellites 7"
It probably isn't fair to compare any merely human band to MoAM
playing the same song, but this was pretty darned lame, I'm afraid.

3) The Shatners - self-titled full-length CD (for only $8.99 NEW!)
If you like MoAM you will like this! Very funny, very good.

Ok, that's it for my recent surf finds. If you like stuff that is
spacey and weird, but not exactly surf, I have all kinds of recommendations.
But try to find the 10" from Hovercraft, it's pretty out there in an
early Pink Floyd / early Tangerine Dream sort of way. They are better
live, by far, but the 10" comes pretty close to the live sound.

For instrumental rock that isn't exactly surf, my highest reccomendation
would go to The Leauge of Gentlemen, and early-80's dance rock experiment
led by Robert Fripp. Anything by these guys, and there isn't much, is
great.
